Hello! Happy New Year!

Are you ready for 2013?! 🙂

I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted but I’m back and I’m really hoping to make 2013 my year. Over the holidays, between kids, working at Pier 1, and the obligatory Christmas cold, I didn’t get anywhere near what I hoped to get done, done. But the Pier 1 gig is over, I’m fortunate to get some more unemployment, and if I don’t do this now, I never will.

Sales at the Depot aren’t great. I mentioned this in my last post and it’s not changed. But again, lack of focus and marketing hasn’t helped. So promoting my work is going to be hugely important. This blog will help, I hope. I’m planning on setting up a blog schedule and really keeping this updated. Right now my plan is to publish M/W/F regularly with largely pre-planned posts – and of course, update when exciting things happen at any time!

So, for example, this Wednesday, I’m going to post about the faux french provincial desk that should have been an easy turnover, but is now proving to be another headache! I seem to be good at finding these sorts of pieces. 😛

My Etsy shop is still active and I’ve made a few small sales with accessories. I think Krrb is good exposure but not a great place to actually sell. One of the things I’m working on now is building my Facebook base. It’s a good way to network with other like-minded people and start building a local following. This week I will try to figure out how to have links to all my sites on the side of this blog.

Anyway, I’m not sure how many of you are still out there, but if you are, welcome back! Here’s hoping all my good intentions and plans come to fruition this year!

A finished piece and other news

I’m still here! Just so busy with work, my kids, and trying to keep up with the booth.

Blogging has fallen by the wayside and that’s a mistake as I know it can really help me reach customers.

Sales at my booth aren’t great. Then again, sales at Pier 1 only just picked up. I’ve made a few sales via Etsy but I’m starting to worry the place I have my booth isn’t the ideal place for me. I really want to do barn shows, pop-up shows, and consignment at places that sell a bit more of the chalk paint and shabby chic look. I also think I may separate my MCM from the other stuff. I love it all, but many potential customers may not.

I’m also doing a craft fair which is more for my advent calendars, but I’m going to put some of my cake stands and chalk boards in there, too.

Anyway, I finally finished my tea cart and I’m pretty happy with it. Here are some pics:

The pics didn’t turn out that well, but I was really pressed for time. I’m hoping a friend of mine might help me photograph my furniture. I’ve just not been happy with what I’m getting.

I also added some fun mid century housewares to my booth. They are also available on Etsy. As are my cake stands.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I plan on starting a proper blog publishing schedule probably after Christmas.

Plugging away…

Sorry for the sounds of silence. I can’t recall if I mentioned or not, but I’ve taken a part time job at Pier One at least for the holidays. Between that, running my kids around, and trying to work on furniture and accessories, my online time has suffered.

For those of you reading, I keep my Facebook page updated a bit more with short comments and new items. Feel free to join me there, too.

In the meantime, here are a few items I’ve recently put in the booth. I’m working on accessories to pull people in but also have a bunch of furniture that still needs painting. Sooo much to do!

I also must find a way to market my stuff better. Craigslist is a pain with all the spammers… Anyway… On to the pics!

Yeah, well, you know…

First the bad news: I’m STILL sick. I NEVER get sick like this! The meds the doctor gave me gave me bad headaches which turned into migraines so I’ve been useless for the last few days. I’m finally feeling more human today.

This was fortuitous as I had a job interview at Pier One and I got offered a part time position! I’m happy but a little stressed. I need the money (big time), but it’s not what I ideally want to be doing. Plus, I’m so behind on my booth stuff that I wish I could just do that, but there’s no guarantee of income from that yet, so retail it is.

Our biggest problem is that my mother (whom I live with and is a saint to put up with me and the kids) and I are sharing one car right now. We have 2, but one is in the shop. Both need a fair bit of work so my life is full of car stress right now. With one car, a retail job schedule plus getting my boys to and from school, is going to be difficult. Not to mention my ex is a tad behind on the child support

Oh well, this blog will NOT be about that! 😉

So, the good news is that between fits of illness, I did manage to finish my dry sink. Rather than reposting pictures, though, I’m going to be lazy today and direct you to my Etsy shop so you can see it there. The pics aren’t amazing but I think they’ll do.

The sink was purchased at Goodwill and was entirely painted white, even the copper liner! It took a helluva lot of effort to get the paint (mostly) off of that. I think it looks nice now. Lots of patina.

Also, instead of painting the inside, I tried decoupage again. It’s not a wonderful job, but it’s good enough for an interior. Getting everything nice and smooth is evading me, however.

I’m not sure if I’m asking too much for it. Figuring out pricing is tricky.

Tomorrow, finally, I’ll move a few pieces of furniture and some ‘smalls’ (accessories under $20) into the booth. It won’t be the perfect ‘launch’ I’d like to have, but at this rate, I’ll take what I can get! 😀

I did it!

Today I signed a lease for a booth at an antiques mall in historic Ellicott City. This is a huge step and I’m shaking in my boots, but I have to give this a go.

I’ll write more about it later, but for now, here’s a picture of the space as is that is just being used, I assume, for overstock. On Monday, I can start to move things in though I may not do so until later in the week. It will be totally cleared out for me though.

I need to come up with ‘vignette’ ideas, wall hangings, and even some lighting.

OMG!!! What have I done?!

And we’re off… with a zzzzzz

Both my little guys started school last week but today is their first full week. Their first day last week, I kicked it off with a bad bout of insomnia brought on by what started as ragweed allergies but has now morphed into a cold/cough. I’ve been sick for the whole week now and today, rather than tackling a new piece of furniture, I napped.

All day.

Oh well. I guess I needed it. I did get a chance yesterday to clean and re-arrange our craft room which will be a big help. And over the last week I’ve been making minor changes to this site, researching linky parties, etc.

But overall, I’m making much slower progress than I’d hoped. I did find my better camera so with any luck, I might get some nicer pics from now on. Otherwise I’ll have to add new camera to my list of things I hope I can acquire at some point.

Aside from working on the furniture, I have several other plans for my business. This web site, for example, needs major design tweaking and I also need a proper logo that can be applied to other things like price tags. One big frustration is that I used to be a graphic designer, but I no longer have the software or fonts I’d need to create something I’d be happy with.

Anyway, I’ve got plans… just gotta make ’em happen!
